History of Grist Mills in North Carolina - Volume 1

History of Grist Mills in North Carolina Ð is a compilation of ALL the mill records in the State Archives (Raleigh). These records are a combination of petitions and law suits. Not every county in NC preserved their records, but what was preserved is included in this 6 volume series. The first volume has an overview about Grist Mills, including statistics and other data derived from these preserved records. The other three volumes contain the county records, in alphabetical order. These records were photographed and a short transcript of the pertinent information is provided. Some records are typed and do not require transcription. Volume 1 includes the following counties Ð Alexander, Anson, Ashe, Bertie, Brunswick, Bute, Caldwell, Caswell, Chowan, Cumberland, Davidson and Edgecombe (Part 1) the second half is in Volume 2.
