In silvered zink with teal-coloured enamels; diagonal pinback; maker marked “F.M Lorioli Fratelli, Milano”, and marked “Modello Depositato No. 38” on the reverse; illustrating crossed downward-pointed Cossack sabres, overlaying a wreath composed of thorns (symbolizing suffering) on the left and oak leaves (symbolizing heroism) on the right, tied together at the top with a Savoy knot, ribbon banner at the base inscribed “Fonte Russo” (Russian Front); measuring 43.58 mm in diameter; weighing 17.0 grams; scattered silvering. Accompanied by its original packet of issue; marked “Lorioli Fratelli”; measuring 80 mm x 53 mm; better than very fine condition.
Footnote: This badge was awarded to Italian troops that served on the Eastern front between June 22, 1941 and June 5, 1943. It was issued for the first time in March 1943.
